Orthodox Pro Privacy Policy
Effective 8 September 2026
Orthodox Pro is made by Gleam Team LLC. This page explains what the app does with your information. The short version: almost everything happens on your phone, the only things that leave it are what you choose to post, and nothing is sold or used for advertising.
What stays on your phone
Location. The Churches map opens on the whole country and does not ask where you are. It asks only when you press “Show churches near me”, or the same button on the map, and only then to centre the map on you. Your location is used only while the app is open, is never stored by us, and is never sent to our servers. You can find any church by name, town or state without it.
Homily translation. When you turn on the homily translator, the app listens through the microphone and turns speech into text using Apple's on-device speech recognition, then translates it using a language model stored on your phone. Nothing you hear is recorded, saved, or transmitted. If your phone cannot recognise a language without sending the audio away, the app stops and tells you rather than sending it. The translation models themselves are downloaded once from Google's servers, which involves your phone contacting Google to fetch the file.
Reading position, text size, language, and calendar. Your preferences are saved on the phone only.
What we store when you take part in the community
The Social tab is optional. You can use every other part of the app without it. If you do take part:
- A guest account is created for you automatically. It is a random identifier, tied to nothing — not your name, your email, or your Apple ID — unless you choose to sign in.
- An email address, if you sign in with one rather than with Apple. If you sign in with Apple you may hide your address, and we never see the real one.
- A profile with the display name you type and, if you add one, a profile picture.
- What you post: discussion topics, replies, votes, and events you submit, including any flyer image you attach.
- Reports you send about a post, an event, a parish listing, or another person. A report includes what you reported and any note you wrote, along with your guest identifier so moderators can follow up.
This is stored with Supabase, our database provider, in a data center in Canada. Posts and events are public within the app. Your profile name and picture are shown next to what you post.
You can delete anything you have posted from inside the app. To delete the whole account, open Settings, then Account, then Delete account. That removes your profile, your posts and replies, your votes, any events you posted and any pictures you uploaded, and destroys the account itself. It happens immediately and cannot be undone.
Reports you sent about other people are kept, because a report is about someone else and a moderator may still need to act on it, but your name is removed from them.
Third parties whose servers your phone contacts
- Mapbox draws the map. Loading map tiles sends your approximate position on the map and your IP address to Mapbox. See Mapbox's privacy policy at mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
- Google supplies the Street View image on a parish page and the offline translation models. Opening Street View loads it from Google's servers. See policies.google.com/privacy.
- Supabase hosts the community database and image storage, as above. See supabase.com/privacy.
- News outlets and parish websites. Headlines and events link out to the outlet or parish that published them. Once you tap through, their privacy policy applies.
The app contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking library.
Children
Orthodox Pro is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
